How FMDC / SZABMU Federal Merit Is Calculated

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) Islamabad admits to Federal Medical College (FMC) and the Federal Medical & Dental College (FMDC) on a federal quota that covers every province plus AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. The formula is 50% FSc + 50% MDCAT — the same 50/50 weighting NUMS uses, but FMDC uses your provincial MDCAT score (UHS, ETEA, Sindh-MDCAT or BUMHS depending on your domicile) rather than the NUMS test.

Provincial Federal Quotas

FMDC seats are split across federal quotas: Punjab, Sindh (rural & urban), KPK, Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory, AJK, GB, FATA/merged districts and overseas Pakistanis. You compete only within your own quota; closing merits therefore differ by province.

Worked Example

FSc 985/1100 = 89.55% × 50 = 44.77
MDCAT 175/200 = 87.5% × 50 = 43.75
FMDC Aggregate = 88.52%

FAQs

What was last year's FMDC closing merit? The federal open merit closed near 94.48% in 2024. Provincial quota cutoffs varied — Punjab and ICT typically close highest, Balochistan and GB lowest.

Is Matric counted? No. Like NUMS, the FMDC formula is purely 50% FSc + 50% MDCAT. Matric is used only for tie-breaking.

Which test does FMDC accept? Your provincial MDCAT (UHS, ETEA, Sindh, BUMHS) — there is no separate FMDC entry test. SZABMU verifies your score against the relevant board.
