Each correct answer earns +1 mark; wrong answers earn 0 (PMDC, 2025). Pace at roughly 70 seconds per MCQ. The OMR bubble sheet is scanned electronically, so marking accuracy matters as much as solving accuracy.

“The MDCAT consists of 180 MCQs, each carrying 1 mark. There is no negative marking. Candidates are encouraged to attempt every question.” — PMDC MDCAT Prospectus, 2025

2025 vs 2026 Comparison

PMDC has kept the structure stable. Compared to 2025:

  • Total MCQs unchanged at 180.
  • Biology weightage up by 3 MCQs (was 78 in 2025).
  • English reduced by 1 MCQ; LR unchanged.
  • Negative marking still not applied.

Negative Marking Status

There is no negative marking under PMDC for MDCAT 2026. Always attempt every MCQ — even a wild guess has 25% chance of being correct and zero downside. For the full official rule and how it differs from NUMS & AKU, read Does MDCAT 2026 Have Negative Marking?

OMR Bubble-Filling Tips

  • Use a blue ballpoint pen only — gel pens smudge.
  • Fill bubbles fully — half-marks confuse the scanner.
  • Do not bubble after every MCQ. Solve a page (10 MCQs), then bubble in batch.
  • If you change an answer, ask the invigilator for a corrector strip — never scribble.
  • Keep your bubble sheet flat. Folds break the scan.

Strategy Implications

Biology = Your Score Engine

With 81 of 180 marks (45%), Biology decides whether you cross 160. Most toppers hit 75+/81 here. See Biology: High-Yield Topics and the Premeth Biology hub.

Chemistry = The Differentiator

Most students drop here. Master Organic mechanisms first (see Reaction Maps). Visit the Chemistry hub for unit-wise drills.

Physics = The Time-Burner

Long calculations eat your clock. Use Physics Tricks and practice on the Physics hub.

English & LR = Free Marks

9 marks each, very high attempt rate among toppers. Don't skip these — see Cracking Logical Reasoning.

Recommended Time Allocation

  1. Round 1 (90 min): All Biology + easy Chemistry/Physics MCQs.
  2. Round 2 (60 min): Remaining Chemistry + Physics with calculation.
  3. Round 3 (30 min): English + LR + revisits.
  4. Round 4 (30 min): Final bubble check + skipped MCQs.

FAQ

Q: Is the paper bilingual?

Yes. Each MCQ appears in both English and Urdu (except English section).

Q: Can I use a calculator?

No. All calculations must be mental or on the OMR margin.

Q: How is the result calculated?

Total correct answers × 1 mark = your score (out of 180). Aggregate then uses the 10/40/50 formula.
